BOOK BONANZA - Donations of books, tapes and CDs are requested for a “Celebrate Children” benefit sale to help support reading programs at Evergreen Elementary School. The event at the school on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will include a bake sale. Donations can be taken to the office through Friday, May 18.

BRUNCH/BINGO BENEFIT - A breakfast plus bingo games to benefit Masonic Youth Charities will be held Saturday, May 19 at Illinois Valley Senior Center on E. River Street by Belt Masonic Lodge. The brunch from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. will feature Taylor’s sausage, eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and beverages. Bingo will be played from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

CAMPIN’ CLEAN - Volunteers to help spiffy up the Caves Creek, Chinquopin and Grayback campgrounds for SOLV’s Down by the Riverside event can sign up for Saturday, May 19. Phone volunteer coordinators Jack & Janet Walker at 597-2410.

SELMA GROWIN’ GROUND - Selma Farmers Market will hold a special one-day plant and starts sale on Sunday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the pole building just north of Ray’s Food Place on Hwy. 199. Gardeners can sell, buy or trade. Booth space is available by phoning Linda Meier at 597-2522. A vendor meeting will be held at 1 p.m.

ABOUT TROUT - Lake Selmac will be stocked with approximately 4,400 legal-size rainbow trout this week. The fish are from the Cole M. Rivers Hatchery on the Rogue River operated by the Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife.

FOR ‘GRANDMA AGGIE’ - A benefit dinner for Agnes Baker Pilgrim (Grandmother Aggie) will be held at Dome School on Saturday, May 26. The gourmet meal will begin at 6 p.m., and homemade desserts will be sold after. Admission will be on a sliding scale. Entertainment beginning at 8:30 p.m. will be provided by Darryl Cherney with his band, “The Patriot Act.” Pilgrim, of the Takilma Tribe, is a tireless protector of Mother Earth, and travels extensively as a member of the Council of Thirteen Grandmothers. The council is a global alliance for prayer, education and healing. The fund-raiser will help offset her many expenses. Raffle donations can be left at Changes Art Gallery in Downtown CJ or phone Suzanne Vautier at 592-3939.

HEAVEN SCENT - Donations of diapers through Fathers’ Day on June 17 began with Mothers’ Day, notes Illinois Valley Pregnancy Center. Donations are to encourage those who have chosen life for their babies. Phone 5926058, or visit the center at 481 S. Junction Ave.
