Ukraine experience topic for free program at LBMS May 11

Jim Slothower, who spent a year in Ukraine with members of the Baha’i faith, will present a slide show and talk in Cave Junction on Friday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Anyone can attend the free program at Lorna Byrne Middle School, and more information is available by phoning 592-5234.

Slothower has practiced law in Bend for more than 30 years.

During 2004-2005, he took a one-year sabbatical from his practice and moved to Zaporozhia, Ukraine at the request of the Baha’is of Ukraine. He lived in a modest Soviet-era apartment and traveled throughout the country giving talks and meeting members of the Baha’i faith.

Program sponsors said that the Baha’i faith is the youngest of all the major world religions and the second-most widespread. Its central theme is unity of mankind.

Slothower experienced first-hand the “Orange Revolution,” which brought the government to a standstill and the country to the brink of civil war. He will share his slides and impressions of his stay in the Ukraine.
