HISTORY HEROES - Six students at Lorna Byrne Middle School are raising funds to attend National History Day competition in Washington, D.C. from June 9 to 17 with their teacher, Lacey Fox. The LBMS students placed second in state competition in Salem. Sierra Heikka and Zach Kay won for a documentary, “John McLouglin: Father of Oregon.” Myana Dhenin, Angelia Heath, Jamie Sowell and Kristen Vidales were winners in the group play category with their presentation about the Salem (Mass.) witch trials. All donations are tax-deductible and can be made payable to the LBMS History Day Fund. They can left at the office or mailed to 101 S. Junction Ave. in Cave Junction.

DANDY DUDS - Good, clean clothing will be given away free Saturday, May 5 at Takilma Bible Church. It’s a twice-annual event. See the ad in this issue.

GOOD FOR GRADS - A benefit for the Illinois Valley High School Class of 2007 All-Night Grad Party will be held at the school Saturday, May 5. There will be a dinner, fashion show and silent auction. WOMEN’S SUPPORT - “Beyond Abuse,” a support group for women, will begin Tuesday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Illinois Family Resource Center in Cave Junction. The program is sponsored by I.V. Family Coalition. Phone 592-2515 to sign up.

ARTFUL WALKING - Art Walk in Downtown Cave Junction on Friday, May 11 will feature artists and arts from 5 to 8 p.m. at several shops. They include An Artist’s Way (formerly BeBe’s), Changes Art Gallery, Sassy’s & Time Capsule, Rising Suns, Jefferson State Financial, Illinois Valley Senior Center Thrift Store, and Upstairs Art Gallery. Special dinner menus, refreshments, art, and live music will be offered at Pizza Pit, Bagel Junction, Nacho Mamas, Taylor’s Country Store, Special Productions, and Darn Near Everything. “Stroll Downtown CJ with friends and take in the art and entertainment along the way,” said co-sponsors Illinois River Valley Art Council, Southern Oregon Guild, and Evergreen Federal Bank. SINK OR SWIM - Illinois Valley Pool Committee is sponsoring performances of the Culpepper & Merryweather Circus on Thursday, May 17 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. on the Junction Inn vacant lot. BENEFIT BY BIKERS - A motorcycle run, “Partners For A Cure,” to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), will be held Saturday, May 19. Lake Selmac Resort and MDA are co-sponsors.
