Thursday, April 12

*A vehicle pursuit at 9:21 p.m. on Caves Hwy. ended with a patrol car mired in mud at the end of Tycer Crossing. The two occupants of the elusive vehicle fled on foot. The passenger was detained later for a short time. The vehicle was impounded; a shotgun discovered within was seized for safekeeping. And the deputy’s cruiser was rescued.

*DVDs, CDs and a camera were reported taken from a Draper Valley Road address, and were said to have been pawned in Cave Junction. The complainant provided possible suspect information; the pawn shop was contacted, and further investigation was pending.

*An Old Stage Road resident complained of ATV riders whose activity caused a disturbing volume of noise and who were thought to be trespassing on Pacific Power property.

*Someone sideswiped a green station wagon parked on a Cave Junction lot, causing some $4,000 damage, the owner reported.

*Denied a room at Cave Junction lodgings due to past problems, an unhappy man threatened to destroy the place, a manager reported.

*Village idiots in two vehicles with headlights off were reported turning circles on the athletic field at Evergreen Elementary School at 9 p.m., tearing up the grass and leaving ruts.

*John Edward Shaw, 25, was cited on charges of driving uninsured and driving with a suspended license (DWS) on Redwood Hwy. in Selma at 10:30 p.m.

*A recently purchased Toyota pickup truck was reported stolen by a S. Sawyer Avenue resident.

Friday, April 13

*Fully engulfed in flames on the side of Laurel Road just after midnight, a Toyota pickup truck was determined to be the one reported stolen hours earlier. The owner was to arrange for recovery.

*Various items were removed from a logging truck on Greenview Drive off Dick George Road before the culprits were interrupted and fled, a caller said at 11 a.m.

*Theft of fishing tackle, a boat battery and GPS was reported from a boat stored at a home on Old Stage Road.

*A Cave Junction man said that he’d received harassing phone calls from a Medford man to whom he would not sell medical marijuana.

*A man against whom she has a restraining order followed her from a CJ restaurant and yelled threats at her and her boyfriend, a woman said.

*Just before 11 p.m. gunshots from two vehicles were said fired toward properties in the 1900 block of Thompson Creek Road .

Saturday, April 14

*A woman reported that possibly armed persons were trying to break into a residence in the 32000 block of Redwood Hwy. They left after much yelling, but not before breaking a window out of the complainant’s pickup truck.

*The group in the above item was detained in Kerby. William Bryan Norris, 30, and Christopher, Robert Luna, 31, were cited on charges of first-degree attempted burglary, menacing, first-degree and criminal mischief. Norris also was cited on a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon. Both were lodged in Josephine County Jail.

*At 8 a.m. a red Toyota pickup truck was reported stolen from N. Hussey Avenue. Its owner informed deputies that he’d be driving around town, apparently in another vehicle, looking for it.

*Seven cows, evidently on the hoof, were said traveling south on Takilma Road at 9 a.m.

*Thieving fools stole furnishings from a yurt at the Mallard Loop campground at Lake Selmac, the park host reported.

Sunday, April 15

*At quarter to 1 a.m. a group of teen-agers was said to be throwing items onto Redwood Hwy. somewhere in the valley.

*On Rockydale Road at 1:08 a.m., James Timothy Evens, 49, was cited on a charge of speeding.

*“Highly intoxicated” and said to be “uncooperative,” Denise G. Engebretson, 48, was cited on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII) on Caves Hwy. at 2:40 a.m.

*During a 4 a.m. traffic stop on Laurel Road, the driver received numerous harassing calls on her cell phone. At her request, the caller was warned regarding telephonic harassment, and the driver was given domestic violence information.

*Olena H. Davis, 25, was cited on a charge of failure to comply with a diversion agreement in connection with a previous DUII charge.

*At 8:50 p.m. in the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy., a man claimed that another man pulled a gun and demanded money.

Monday, April 16

*Some five gallons of gasoline were reported siphoned from a vehicle on Schumacher Street.

*A real estate agent reported being chased by someone after taking photos of a residence and a park nearby. The chaser explained he thought the agent might be a “pervert” photographing children. The situation was resolved.

*A 50-year-old woman wearing an orange shirt, black pants and plastic shower cap left her White Schoolhouse Road residence on foot, headed toward CJ, after going “schizo,” screaming and throwing things, a caller said.

*A man, 29, was assaulted after a verbal altercation in the 300 block of S. Redwood Hwy. in broad daylight at 4:40 p.m.

*On Schumacher Street at 11:07 p.m. a man saw persons with flashlights walking about on an adjacent property.

Tuesday, April 17

*It was reported that a CJ bank customer became angry about problems with her account and refused to pay subsequent fines. The situation devolved into a verbal disturbance with the woman’s boyfriend in the bank lobby. The front door was damaged during the disturbance. As a result, the door was “unsecurable,” the manager stated.

Wednesday, April 18

*Copper ground wires 2-to-4 feet in length were reported cut from a Pacific Power complex near Rough & Ready Creek by some doofus who cut open the padlocked gate.

*Furtive figures figured in a case where two 45-foot tall pressure-treated utility poles set into the ground appeared to have been cut down with a chainsaw and stolen from a construction site on Redwood Hwy. north of Cave Junction.

*A Lorna Byrne Middle School student was suspended for five days after making threats to stab a teacher and himself. He was to be counseled.

*More copper ground wire was reported stolen, this time from the Cave Junction Pacific Power substation. Information from the FBI office in Medford revealed that three people had been arrested in Del Norte County in California for the same crime. (Thieves take note: the FBI.)

*Only one piece of wire was taken from the Pacific Power substation on Illinois River Road, although the lock had been cut there also.

*Despite the fact that no one was supposed to be present, a tenant at a property in the 9000 block of Takilma Road saw persons in a separate residence on the land. One of those contacted, Earl Will Lee Huitt, 37, was cited a charge of failure to appear (FTA) on charges of manufacture and possession of a controlled substance.

*On a CJ parking lot at 10 p.m. a man and woman were reportedly engaged in a domestic disturbance. He was said to be kicking the vehicle she was attempting to run him over with, and they were screaming at each other. When a deputy responded, the couple could not be located.
