TALK IT OUT - “Colorful Communications” is the title of a workshop for all students on Thursday, April 19 from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. The free workshop, to “learn how to effectively communicate with anyone at any time,” will be held in the Illinois Valley High School cafeteria. On Thursday, April 26, “What’s Your Vision?” will be the topic. The presentations are co-sponsored by the IVHS 21st Century Program and I.V. Community Development Organization. EARTH DAY RHYTHM - A celebration of “our beautiful and amazing forests” will be held Saturday, April 21 in the Takilma Community Bldg., sponsored by Takilma Watershed Committee. A gourmet vegan dinner with beverages and desserts will be served at 6 p.m., and there will be a silent art auction. COMMISSION MISSION - At least one member of the Josephine County Board of Commissioners will attend a meeting open to citizens Monday, April 23. Anyone can attend the gathering at 6:30 p.m. in the county building in Downtown Cave Junction. The CJ City Council will meet in workshop session at 6 p.m. with commissioners; then conduct their meeting in city hall at 7 p.m.
LBMS VOLUME DEAL - A Scholastic Book Fair for children and adults is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 through May 1 at Lorna Byrne Middle School. The community can attend to share the celebration of books and reading. Students who remain readers, encouraged by events such as the book fair, are more likely to be lifelong learners with larger vocabularies and a greater knowledge of the world with higher academic achievement. A special family event will be held on Family Night, Tuesday, May 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
SELMA VENDORS NEEDED - June 3 will mark the official opening of this season’s Selma Farmers Market, which will be held Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Opening day will be free for vendors, and membership information is available from Linda Meier at 597-2522. Membership is open to vendors of locally grown produce and eggs, handcrafted goods, art and homemade baked goods and other edibles.
NOTEPAD - “Soup For Souls,” a benefit for Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance, will be held Saturday, April 21 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at I.V. Senior Center. Soup and bread, plus an auction, will be among features ... “Wings of Love” will perform Southern Gospel-style music in a free concert Sunday, April 22 at Community Bible Church in Cave Junction beginning at 6 p.m. … “Taste of Africa” is the theme for the final Family Night at Lorna Byrne Middle School on Tuesday, May 1 with food by Kate Dwyer Catering.
