Wednesday, March 21

*A knife was confiscated from a Lorna Byrne Middle School (LBMS) student, and a report of menacing was to follow.

*Responding units observed radio silence while approaching a location on Dick George Road to apprehend an attempted murder suspect from Grants Pass.

*On Laurel Road a man sleeping in a van caused concern for someone who flagged down a sheriff’s office volunteer to report it.

*The manager of Southern Oregon Sanitation’s Kerby Transfer Station reported a man came out of the woods near the facility around 8 p.m., began yelling for the caller to leave his vehicle and fired several gunshots.

*Although it was unknown if anyone had attempted to enter an Ollis Road home, a resident reported smelling man’s cologne, but was afraid to investigate further.

Thursday, March 22

*Takilma Road resident Justin Leavitt, 36, was arrested on warrants charging third-degree theft and failure to appear on an original driving-under-the-influence-of-alcohol (DUII) citation.

*More than half a dozen iPods, valued at $1,600, were reported stolen from CJ Radio Shack.

*His stolen wheel rims were currently under a vehicle parked at a Downtown CJ establishment, a caller said.

*A reported runaway was said to have returned home this morning.

Friday, March 23

*Renee K. Petty, 49, was cited on charges of expired registration, driving without insurance and lack of an operator’s permit. Her vehicle was impounded.

*On Pine Cone Drive a man reported harassment on the part of his landlord and a male friend of his landlord.

*A Lakeshore Drive resident reported hearing a man’s voice yelling at her dogs at 12:42 p.m.

*A student at LBMS was reported missing after an “all-classroom search.” He returned home later in the day.

*A 7- or 8-year-old child was observed sitting alongside Dick George Road in the 2100 block with a backpack.

*A caller reported having been assaulted on Crooks Creek Road by a woman who was likely still on scene.

*Squatters had established a large camp on BLM property in the 3000 block of Rockydale Road.

*Large-caliber semi-automatic rifle fire was reported near Davis Creek. It had been going on all day, a caller said, and was continuing into the night.

Saturday, March 24

*Near Lake Selmac, troublemakers were setting off fireworks and shooting guns, some complained.

*Renters on Krauss Lane were said to be stealing items from their landlord.

*The operator of an ATV was trespassing at a campground at Lake Selmac at 1:18 p.m.

*Bitten by a dog on one foot, a 6-year-old girl on Addison Lane was said to be bleeding severely.

*Two large “bangs,” thought to be explosions set off by a neighbor, were heard in the 1400 block of Deer Creek Road at 5 p.m.

Sunday, March 25

*Mark L. Eaves Sr., 47, was cited on a charge of DUII and his vehicle impounded near a Downtown CJ establishment.

*On White Schoolhouse Road at Caves Hwy., Michelle A. Bergman, 21, was cited on a charge of driving with a suspended license (DWS) and warned about failure to use headlights and failure to carry proof of insurance.

*Lorne Don Shankle, 46, was cited to appear on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief.

*Captured on video walking away from Shop Smart Food Warehouse the day before with a case of beer, Matthew Cortez, 17, was detained when found in the store again.

*Digging in a ditch on Schumacher Street and talking to himself, a man in dirty overalls was said looking for “sandstones.”

*Numerous street signs around Cave Junction were reported sheered off their poles.

*A young man with mental illness history was convinced to take his medication after it was reported he went “berserk,” and destroyed personal belongings with a double-bit ax.

*On Shadowbrook Drive, Dustin N. Dutton, 28, was cited on a charge of speeding (40 in a 25 mph zone) and driving uninsured.

*Panicky because his passenger was in possession of a marijuana pipe, a young driver was sternly warned for trying to elude a police officer on N. Redwood Hwy. at 11:30 p.m. Subsequetly, Jade Charleton Yandall, 17, was cited on charges of failure to dim headlights, lack of a driver’s license and driving without insurance. His passenger, Branden Eugene Halsten, 16, was cited on a charge of being a minor in possession of tobacco.

Monday, March 26

*Parked in the bus loop at Evergreen Elementary School, loud music was pouring forth from a vehicle at 12:12 a.m.

*Michael Christopher Hammond, 39, was arrested on a Coos County warrant charging failure to appear on an assault charge.

*Several items including a chainsaw, rain-gear, rolled coins and a laptop computer were reported stolen from two unlocked vehicles in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy.

*A shoeless man was reported lying in the middle of the road on N. Hussey Avenue at 10 a.m., picking up glass.

*A man was seen hanging around and lying atop a pile of burned debris from a structure fire in the 500 block of S. Redwood Hwy.

*Continuing problems between mother and son on S. Boundry Avenue became physical, a caller reported. Jerrad Loy Tucker, 23, was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital on a peace officer’s mental hold.

*Animal Control was to remove three dogs and some cats left in a residence on Krauss Lane after the tenants were evicted.

*A man in his 20s with a “chunky build” who looked “dirty” was said by an employee of Speedy Mart to have pulled a knife and threatened to kill her.

*Though he reported that he’d been assaulted by his girlfriend, a man on Caves Hwy. was uncooperative with the deputy, concerned that the woman would accuse him of being the aggressor.

Tuesday, March 27

*A man in a white Ford Bronco ran into her vehicle parked at a Selma restaurant, a woman said. Though aware he’d done it, he left without providing any information, she said.

*On Holland Loop, a teen-age boy with a backpack was seen removing reflectors from the middle of the roadway.

*Picking up pebbles and pushing a shopping cart, an apparently disturbed person was seen walking near I.V. Visitor Center.

*Stopped on Illinois River Road, a motorist was said to be “intoxicated,” and driving around knocking over trashcans on Norman Road.

Wednesday, March 28

*It was thought that a prowler might be trying to enter a vehicle on Lone Mountain Road at 3:30 a.m.

*Sometime overnight a lock on a pump house at Lake Selmac was destroyed, and some $100 damage was reported.

*In the 400 block of Caves Hwy. a man had been kneeling on the roadway for 15 minutes, and a caller was concerned he might be hit by a car.

*Permitted to stay behind St. Matthias Episcopal Church and have a campfire there, a man was frightened when someone threw an aerosol can into the flames, causing an explosion.

*Bikers had been camping on property in the 100 block of Illinois River Road, a caller said.

*Horses were loose on Draper Valley Road at 8 p.m.
