The Southern Oregon Guild (SOG) Gallery and Artists’ Center in Kerby bustled with activity Saturday afternoon, March 24, during a reception for Featured Artist, woodworker F. Mallory Hicklin.

Thirty visitors – SOG members, friends and family, and the public – filled the gallery with conversation and energy.

Hicklin explained the genesis and use of the snow sculpture tools he created for the first Mt. Ashland snow sculpture competition in 2006. And he spoke with many about his other displayed pieces.

Guild members and nonmembers alike explored the numerous other exhibits. They also learned more about what can be accomplished with the equipment in the center; socialized and enjoyed a sumptuous pot-luck snack buffet.

Monthly Artist Receptions are planned throughout the year to inform the public about the Southern Oregon Guild and its Gallery and Artist Center in the RCC Learning Center in Kerby. The receptions also provide guild members a regular opportunity to meet and share ideas and to focus on the changing exhibits in the SOG Co-op Gallery.

Receptions usually will be held on fourth Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at the center. However, the next reception is planned for Saturday, April 21.
