Walter Kenneth
Haines Sr.

U.S. Army Air Corps veteran Walter Kenneth Haines Sr., 83, of Kerby, died on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at his residence.

A service was held Wednesday, March 21 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Haines was born May 6, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa to Clifford and Pearl (Rohrer) Haines. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945, flying in the China, Central Burma and India Burma battles, flying the hump of the Himalayas. On June 8, 1943 in Omaha, Neb., he married Eleanor Marie Pleuler, who died on July 20, 1985.

He was a salesman for Pacific Toy House in California, and then worked for 12 years in the transportation maintenance department for the city of Norwalk in California until he retired in 1984.

He moved to Selma in 1984 from Whittier, Calif. He had lived in Selma, Cave Junction and Kerby.

Mr. Haines belonged to the Hump Pilots Association and had been a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an devoted fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed watching Nebraska college football.

Surviving are a son, David A. Haines, of Perkasie, Penn.; four daughters, Kathy Newman, of Cave Junction, Susan G. Hill, of Riverside, Calif., Sandra Steward, of Austin, Texas, and Judith Haines, of Lakewood, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Northrup, of Carson City, Nev., Mildred Thornton, of Gardner, Mont.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A son, Walter Haines Jr. preceded him in death.

Chapel of the Valley/L. B. Hall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Stephen Wells

Stephen Wells, 83, of Selma, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Stephens Family Chapel in Grants Pass.

Jeanette E. Reed-Harris

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors chapel for Selma resident Jeanette E. Reed-Harris, 69, who died at home Saturday, March 24, 2007.

A funeral service will commence at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 29, also at Hull & Hull. Chaplain Carole Howser will officiate. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Reed-Harris was born Dec. 2, 1937 in Portland, Ore. She graduated in 1956 from Wilson High School. She moved to Selma from Damascus four years ago.

Mrs. Reed-Harris, a long-haul truck driver for 20 years, retired from Mitchell Brothers Trucking in 1999. Her hobbies were traveling, camping, gardening, sewing and cooking.

Besides her husband, Richard Harris, of Selma, she is survived by two sons, Donald Reed, of Selma, and Duane Reed, of Gresham; two daughters, Katherine Dragoo and Dawn Weinberger, both of Portland; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Reed, in 1999.
