Saturday, March 17

*Found sleeping behind Immanuel United Methodist Church, Kristopher Wayne Simpson, 17, was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center in Grants Pass on warrants charging unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and being a runaway person.

*At 8:01 a.m., James Franklin Wimberley, 68, was cited for failure to carry an operator’s permit and warned for failure to maintain a lane in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy.

*Propane-powered appliances valued at some $7,000 were reported stolen from a residence in the 13000 block of Caves Hwy.

Wrecked van

*Two stolen vehicles were recovered from brush near Seats Dam. One, according to a deputy, had been driven onto a stump, and a tree dropped in it. The other, a van taken overnight from the Illinois Valley High School shop, was “totaled.” (See photo).

*A Cave Junction boy, 16, was listed as a runaway juvenile by his mother.

*Luann Walsh, 61, was cited on a charge of driving uninsured and warned for expired registration and speeding on Rockydale Road at 6 p.m.

*An injured deer was put to death on Lakeshore Drive just before 7 p.m.

*Near 8 p.m. a bicyclist on E. River Street was warned for failure to wear appropriately reflective clothing.

Sunday, March 18

*An unoccupied, blue-colored pickup truck had been parked in the middle of Schumacher Street all morning, a caller reported.

*A K-9 officer cleared Illinois Valley Family Resource Center after it was discovered unsecured at 10:22 a.m. All was declared OK.

*In the 300 block of Caves Hwy., a 15-year-old boy was counseled regarding his behavior after he allegedly caused a broken nose on an older man.

*Two people at the green bridge on Eight Dollar Mountain Road were warned about riding their ATVs on pavement and not having proper license stickers.

*Approximately $1,100 worth of firewood-cutting equipment was reported stolen from an open trailer on a Downtown CJ parking lot.

*A caller reported that she was the object of verbal sexual harassment while walking at Lake Selmac at 3 p.m. Though he denied any illegal behavior, the man so accused apologized and counseled regarding his behavior.

*Following a 4 p.m. report that an intoxicated and unwelcome man was attempting to enter a McMullen Creek residence through the dog door, Brian Paul Shaw, 33, was located at Lake Selmac. He was “tazed” and finally transported to Josephine County Jail on warrants charging parole violation and failure to appear (FTA).

Monday, March 19

*Robert L. Stevens, 28, was cited on a warrant charging FTA on an original charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant. He also was warned about disorderly conduct in connection with a verbal disturbance on Caves Avenue.

*Theft of tools, a laptop computer and bicycles from a locked shop at I.V. High School was reported.

*Someone ejected from a CJ bar, after a fistfight early this morning, retaliated by throwing a rock through a window. The manager reported having surveillance video of the incident.

*On Upper Deer Creek Road a resident said his mailbox was shot with a pellet gun.

Tuesday, March 20

*Around 2 a.m. a disturbance involving several people was reported behind a CJ bar. Someone fired at a vehicle, shooting out the rear window, and it also was reported that someone else had been beaten.

*A window was reported broken at the I.V. Substation in Cave Junction.

*A fourth-grade student at Evergreen Elementary School reportedly gave ibuprofen tablets to five other students. All spent the day in detention and were to receive expulsion letters.

*At 3:37 p.m. a Kerby resident said that a man had come by to threaten to kill him and his family.

*A caller reported a locked vehicle abandoned on Patton Bar Drive property for two days. Of special concern were the two baseball bats inside the car, one of which customized with metal spikes and leather.
