Tales from the Police Blotter

* * *

Thursday, Nov. 9

*Headed toward Grants Pass from Illinois Valley at 2:47 a.m., the operator of a maroon sedan was said to be driving erratically.

*At 6:15 a.m. a White School Road resident reported a dozen or so horses, not hers, loose in her field. She chased them away.

*On White School Road a man reported a dead miniature horse on his driveway, and others were on the loose.

*“Employee error” was the cause of a motion detection alarm at Illinois Valley High School at 9:13 a.m.

*Her estranged husband was pounding on her front door demanding his shoes, said a woman in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. Though he was told where to get them, he wouldn’t leave, she said. He was gone upon a deputy’s arrival, and she was advised of her options.

*His former landlords were harassing him and had made threats toward him through a third party, a Kerby man said at 11 a.m.

*Prescription medication was reported stolen from a residence on Ollis Road.

*A 16-year-old O’Brien resident was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass on a peace officer’s mental hold after ingesting three packages of birth control pills and some cold medicine.

*On the pretext that she owes him money, a man had been phoning to harass her, claimed a Naue Way resident. Furthermore, the man had threatened her son at O’Brien Country Store with a gun, she said. She wanted the man’s behavior documented.

*Loud music, vehicles racing up and down the road, beer bottles everywhere and parties until early morning were complained about on Dogwood Lane.

*A driver reported accidentally striking a cow on Holland Loop at 10:30 p.m. His vehicle was rendered undriveable. The cow was taken to a nearby farm.

Friday, Nov. 10

*At 10:34 p.m. an anonymous caller complained of loud music coming from the 200 block of Dogwood Lane.

*(Apparently not much else happened in the valley.)

Saturday, Nov. 11

*Casey Alexander Taylor, 20, was cited on charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, and driving with a suspended license. His vehicle was impounded.

*Three vehicles were entered and one stolen at a Holton Creek Road residence. The stolen vehicle was recovered not far away.

*A teen-aged boy “flipped him off,” said a man on W. River Street. After he said something to the boy, the kid picked up a rock and broke his windshield, the man reported. The boy was contacted at home, and his parents and the complainant worked out a compromise.

*A highly intoxicated man was refusing to leave a business in the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy., an employee said at 4 p.m.

*The location of a stolen vehicle in a gravel pit on Thompson Creek Road was noted, and its owner was contacted.

*Father and son were screaming at one another on McMullen Creek Road at 5:30 p.m.

*Her husband and other family members who’d gone to Page Mountain Snow Park had not returned, a woman said. They later contacted her, having had to dig their vehicle out of snow three times, and traveled to Happy Camp to reach Interstate 5 to return home.

Sunday, Nov. 12

*Paul Daniel Pittman Jr, 29, phoned to report having been assaulted by his ex-wife’s boyfriend. She phoned to say that he’d violated a restraining order, to which he admitted. He was arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, two counts of harassment and two counts of restraining order violation.

*Sitting on the side of Redwood Hwy. near the U.S. Forest Service compound were a motorcycle and ATV with government license plates. It was presumed that the vehicles had been stolen from USFS.

*Cabinets were destroyed, holes punched in every wall and extensive damage caused to a home under construction on Kerby Avenue, a man reported.

*A man in black clothing was doing push-ups on the yellow line on Rockydale Road, a caller said.

Monday, Nov. 13

*Three firearms were reported stolen from a residence on Holland Loop.

*At noon her neighbor showed up with a dog and a wheelbarrow, said a woman on Caves Hwy. The neighbor yelled at her to vacate the property, “as she’d been told to do in 1978.” The woman wanted this information logged, as problems with this neighbor were of increasing frequency, the complainant said.

*Two teen-agers were banging on doors at Evergreen Elementary School around 7 p.m. a custodian reported.

*While checking on a door alarm on S. Junction Avenue around 8 p.m., a deputy’s patrol car became stuck in a ditch. Jerry’s Towing successfully removed the vehicle, with no damage noted.

*On Caves Hwy. a woman thought that a prowler was running past, kicking her dogs and talking to them.
