Tales from the Police Blotter

Tuesday, Oct. 17

*Following a report by a man on W. River Street about gunshot damage, a deputy found that the man’s gun had been fired from under the complainant’s bed sheets. He was warned about discharging a firearm in city limits, and was going to seek medical attention about his sleep habits.

*Someone was worried about a white car and its occupants at 199 and Reeves Creek Road because they seemed to be confused or in trouble or not.

Wednesday, Oct. 18

*Right around midnight, a deputy swept through the Jubilee Park area. Shortly thereafter a driver on Redwood Hwy at Lister Street was warned about speeding.

*During a check of Illinois River “Forks” State Park at quarter to 2 p.m., a 48-year-old woman was contacted. She was warned regarding park hours, her registration-less vehicle and her own lack of operator’s license.

Thursday, Oct. 19

*Two drivers in Selma were warned regarding driving too fast for road conditions (VBR/violation of the basic rule) between 7:30 and 8 a.m.

*On Lakeshore Drive a woman and her 18-year-old son had a physical altercation, reported at 9:22 a.m. He was to return later and retrieve his belongings, and she was advised of her options.

*OSP was notified of an apparent hunting violation discovered after contact with a couple of people on Illinois River Road.

*His laptop computer and accessories were taken from his unlocked travel trailer at Grayback Campground, a man reported.

*A driver on Sucker Creek Road was cited on a charge of driving without an operator’s license, and warned about expired vehicle registration.

*Two firearms and a generator were reported stolen from a forest service-owned trailer at Page Mountain snow park.

*At 7:48 p.m. a caller said he could see smoke and hear someone yelling, “Get me to the hospital!” from a White Schoolhouse Road residence. As medics arrived they learned the patient they sought had fled in a rage, and was probably given a ride. Shortly thereafter, emergency personnel were requested to respond to a motor vehicle accident on Caves Hwy. involving a burn victim. Though “somewhat uncooperative,” the man was transported by American Medical Response to Three Rivers Community Hospital.

Friday, Oct. 20

*Forced entry had been made, items had been stolen, and trash dumped in the river at his Krauss Lane property, a caller reported.

*Though given a chance in an earlier “civil compromise” to return his stolen motorcycle, the other party had not, a Kerby resident reported.

*After making a threatening comments to an aide and about burning down the building, a Lorna Byrne Middle School student reportedly left the campus. His parents had been notified.

*Debra Jean Wolfe, 49, was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital for evaluation on a peace officer’s mental hold.

Saturday, Oct. 21

*Around noon, a man with a guitar who’d been asked to leave Taylor’s Country Store, due to his disorderly behavior, was said to be throwing rocks at the building. He left prior to a deputy’s arrival.

*In the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy., a man said that his “Dogs Playing Poker” tapestry had been taken off his fence. He later recovered it himself.

*“Agitated” by a lack of response from deputies concerning a continuing problem with loud music coming from the neighbor’s place, a man in the 23000 block of Redwood Hwy. phoned to complain -- again.

*On Laurel Road squatters were said to be occupying a piece of property next door to the complainant, who was advised that the sheriff’s office would take action when the actual property owner notified them of a problem.

*An older, red sports car was said to be speeding and “doing burnouts” in the 200 block of Schumacher Street at 6 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 22

*No reason was determined for an alarm at the CJ Post Office at 9:13 a.m.

*Dewayne Leon Wilson, 41, was cited on a charge of speeding on Redwood Hwy. at W. Sixth Street in Kerby. Wilson was also warned about failure to carry current insurance.

*Employee error was the cause of multiple alarms at Lorna Byrne Middle School at 2:30 p.m.

*“Mom and Dad” were pushing and shoving each other, a child reported from a neighbor’s house in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 2:43 p.m.

*Wanted for failure to appear on charges of fourth-degree assault, third-degree robbery, harassment and second-degree criminal mischief, Richard William Dagenais, 41, was taken into custody in the 900 block of Caves Hwy. and lodged in Josephine County Jail.

Monday, Oct. 23

*Just after 8 a.m. Jesse Swift, 16, was cited on a charge of speeding on E. River Street.

*On Addison Lane at 3:30 p.m. a screaming, upset child caused such a commotion that a neighbor phoned 911 to report the situation.

*A woman on Hogue Drive reported a possible restraining order violation.

*On W. River Street a caller complained that a neighbor kid was hitting their dog. Animal Control was to be notified.

*A small quantity of methamphetamine in a baggie was located by an employee at CJ 76 gas station. It was believed to have been dropped by a customer.

Tuesday, Oct. 24

*A man complained about a possible stalking order violation, but the sheriff’s office could not find proof that the subject being complained about had ever been served.

*A single-vehicle accident on Redwood Hwy. at Smokejumper Way was reported at 7:46 p.m.
