Tales from the Police Blotter

* * *

Monday, Oct. 9

*In connection with a traffic stop at Hwy. 199 and Deer Creek Road at 7:29 a.m., Jimmy Jay Miller, 33, was arrested under two warrants charging failure to appear (FTA) on charges of reckless driving/recklessly endangering another, and fourth-degree assault. He also was charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon, misdemeanor driving while suspended (DWS), furnishing false information, driving without insurance, having switched license plates, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. His vehicle was impounded.

*OSP was advised of a deer, struck by a vehicle near milepost 19 of Hwy. 199 in Selma, that was still alive.

*On W. Stevenson Street, a resident said that someone poured some type of chemical on the family dog.

*Holes were kicked in walls, a door was kicked in, and nails were scattered at a house under construction on Cabernet Drive.

*Also on Cabernet, some genius sprayed black paint all over and kicked in a door at another home being built.

*On W. River Street, a caller said that another of the valley’s weirdos spray-painted an orange stripe on the rear of a car.

*“Unknown reason” was logged after an alarm at the Cave Junction Post office at 3:41 p.m.

*Five “kids” were seen destroying political signs in Downtown CJ. The complainant said he had “a stern talking” to them, and wanted the registered owner of the pickup truck they were in contacted.

*Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (stolen car) was reported on the 6000 block of Westside Road.

*Vincent Lou Kieffer, 23, was cited at Hwy. 199 and Pinewood Way on a charge of speeding: 81 in a 45 zone.

*No action was recommended after a complaint about a child’s welfare in the city of Cave Junction.

*Two young male persons were the focus of a complaint of disorderly conduct at 7:19 p.m. They were sitting at the end of the Finch Road bridge, possibly intoxicated. And one might have had a machete.

*Gunshots “possibly from a .357 or .44 pistol” were reported on Kerby
Avenue in the city of CJ.

*Jubilee Park and Siskiyou Community Medical Center were patrolled shortly before midnight.

Tuesday, Oct. 10

*A man whose last name is Edson (first name and date-of-birth not available) was cited for no driver license and driving uninsured; and warned for eluding after an incident on Hussey Avenue near the CJ Post Office.

*At S. Hussey and W. Lister Street a woman was warned about disorderly conduct at 11:55 a.m.

*At the same location as above, a man was warned for camping on the street.

*Regina C. Miller, 14, was arrested at the Illinois Valley Substation on a charge of being a runaway juvenile, and lodged at the Juvenile Justice Center in Grants Pass.

*Identity theft involving $3,200 on a charge card was reported in Kerby.

*Some sort of disturbance was complained about on Dick George Road. A claim of menacing was termed as unfounded.

*There were no signs of abuse, but a woman was taken from Takilma Road to I.V. Family Coalition after a request for a welfare check from an out-of-state relative.

*Extra patrol was logged at I.V. High School at 8:14 p.m.

*In rural Cave Junction, it was claimed that a man was given $5,000 for work, then failed to do the work. The complainant was filing a case for fraud.

*No crime was noted after it was determined that on Deer Creek Road a mother and her daughter had traded blows with a broom.

Wednesday, Oct. 11

*A woman on Deer Creek Road was to be assisted by crisis workers after her report that her husband assaulted her.

*An employee at a CJ business said that a woman who had been “trespassed” was trespassing. It was found that there was no trespass because the woman didn’t enter the store; she and the employee only screamed at each other, and the woman was outside.

Thursday, Oct. 12

*On Blas Cerdena Drive, a man was suspicious upon finding a juvenile boy sort of fooling with his golf cart, and the boy didn’t seem to be familiar with the neighborhood.

*In Downtown CJ someone was warned about a loose or shifting load.

*A suspicious vehicle with a man sporting a short pony tail was reported in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Drive.

*A couple of drivers were warned for some infractions on Eight Dollar Road.

*An Ollis Road resident voluntarily went with American Medical Response (AMR) in connection with a reported overdose.

*At 11 p.m. someone was reported driving a silver-colored vehicle at high speed on Schumacher Street.

*Because of harassment, a restraining order was being obtained by a Holland Loop resident.

Friday, Oct. 13

*Leslie R. Hansson, 49, was arrested at the county building on charges of second-degree robbery, menacing and resisting arrest after a report that an intoxicated man threatened to cut the throat of a senior meal site worker, who had not yet unloaded the food.

*Deputies were advised of a motorist on Sauer’s Flat who was swerving onto the lane for oncoming traffic on Hwy. 199.

*Apparently a lot of folks thought Friday the 13th was unlucky and didn’t go out, because not much was reported today.

Saturday, Oct. 14

*Jo Anne Bellah, 44, was cited on Schumacher Street on charges of illegally displaying a license plate, DWS, failure to carry proof of insurance and improper validation of sticker.

*Theft of an orange-and-chrome scooter valued at $350 was reported in Kerby. The thief used a crow bar, which was left behind, to force entry into a storage shed, the complainant said.

*Following a request for a welfare check on Caves Avenue, it was ascertained that there was neither crime nor problem.

*The “Stop” sign at S. Junction Avenue and Raymond Street was gone. The city of CJ was to take care of the situation.

*Details were unavailable, but it seems that a large station wagon struck a deer and it died near the California border on 199 close to 10 p.m.

*After a field sobriety test on a woman near milepost 25 of 199, it was noted that she wasn’t impaired, just lost.

Sunday, Oct. 15

*For some reason, an alarm sounded at 5:55 a.m. at Shop Smart Food Warehouse.

*Theft of a vehicle without a clutch was reported in Selma.

*Erratic driving was complained about on S. Hussey Avenue.

*After he spread fecal matter all over the men’s restroom in a CJ bar, the owner wanted him “trespassed” if located.

*“Assault” in the form of being run over by a skateboard in Jubilee Park was claimed by a grandmother for her grandson. She said he had scrapes and a bump.

*Some sort of problem involving an irate customer, a pizza and a credit card was reported in CJ.

*At 9:34 p.m. an apparently abandoned vehicle over the fog line at Holland Loop and Takilma Road was towed as a hazard after a woman complained.

Monday, Oct. 16

*At 1:52 a.m. a woman in the 28000 block of 199 was scared and her dogs “were going crazy” after someone ran through her yard twice. A deputy checked, but no one was located.

*In Downtown CJ at 2:10 a.m. a motorist was warned about a defective head light.

*In connection with a restraining order and relocating a child, assistance was rendered at a public school in CJ.

*A stolen vehicle was found off Illinois River Road. It had been flipped and had substantial damage. The owner was notified, and the car was towed.

*There was a report from Rockydale Road that a boy, 15, had failed to return home after spending the night with a friend. He was listed as a runaway juvenile.

*Telephonic harassment was complained about on Caves Avenue. The caller said that his ex-significant other also had assaulted him during the weekend.

*Robert James Myers, 36, was cited and released on a charge of second-degree trespass after complaints that a man was trying to sell flowers and fighting with people at two Downtown CJ stores.

*In connection with the previous incident, Carrie Lynn Thom, 35, was cited and released under a warrant charging FTA on an original charge of third-degree theft.

*A CJ complainant reporting a stolen motorcycle argued after being advised that it was a civil matter.

Tuesday, Oct. 17

*It first was thought that a deputy was needed in connection with an unknown medical problem on Rockydale Road, but then AMR medics found that such was not the case.

*Several mailboxes were found open in the 6900 block of Holland Loop. The caller thought it suspicious.

*People dumping rubbish into a dumpster had permission, but the CJ complainant was advised of his options.

*Aaron Isenagle, 38, was cited and released on a charge of misdemeanor DWS at Dick George Road and Shadywood Drive.

*An 18-year-old boy was warned about trespassing at I.V. High School at 1:20 p.m.

*Following a report by a man on W. River Street about gunshot damage, a deputy found that the man’s gun had been fired from under the complainant’s bed sheets. He was warned about discharging a firearm in city limits, and was going to seek medical attention about his sleep habits.

*Someone was worried about a white car and its occupants at 199 and Reeves Creek Road because they seemed to be confused or in trouble or not.
