Tales from the Police Blotter

Tuesday, April 25

*On the south side of Cave Junction at 3:30 a.m., a mother said that her adult son, who should be on medication, was screaming, yelling and threatening to leave for the coast. He’d left prior to a deputy’s arrival.

*Someone entered her home, turned a light on and off, and flushed the toilet, reported a woman on White Schoolhouse Road at 4 a.m.

*While reporting the theft of a yellow Saturn, a man on Waldemar Road discovered the vehicle stuck in a ditch nearby.

*On O’Brien Road, a woman said that the young man next door had hit her daughter with a baseball bat, and fired a .BB gun at her.

*Theft of an RV battery and charger was reported on Idlewild Drive.

*In Jubilee Park, a 46-year-old man was warned about leash laws at 3:30 p.m.

*A sign made of a tree-round with three addresses affixed was reported stolen from Deer Creek Road.

*It was noted for patrol information at 7 p.m. that some guy was racing a motorcycle up and down Addison Lane.

*A large group of men was chasing another man on a bicycle with the obvious intent of attacking him, said a caller from Jubilee Park at 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, April 27

*On Norman Road a man was yelling, ringing a bell and making other noise around 1 a.m., which awakened an entire household. They asked that he be told to quiet down.

*White paint besmirched a driveway gate in the 10000 block of Caves Hwy.; criminal mischief was reported.

*Though advised of a mattress on the roadway in the 26000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 11 a.m. a deputy could not locate it.

*On S. Kerby Avenue a woman complained that a teen-aged boy had egged their house, left obscene phone messages, and continually harasses her daughter. She asked that the boy’s parents be contacted.

*Complaining that her 18-year-old son, who “has violent tendencies” and was beyond her control, dented a door at their Schumacher Street residence, a Cave Junction mother was informed that it wasn’t a crime, as he lived there.

*The operator of a white “dually” pickup truck was alleged to be driving recklessly in the vicinity of N. Redwood Hwy. at Palmer Street when he nearly struck a woman. Words (apparently harsh) were exchanged, she said, and then he asked her if she “wanted to see his badge.” He was said to have short blond hair, and be in his late 30s.

*Theft of a yellow-and-black mountain bike from a Kerby residence was reported at 6:30 p.m.

*A cell phone reported lost at Shop Smart Food Warehouse at 9:30 p.m. was soon recovered.

*Nitwits were said to be driving on the track and athletic field behind Lorna Byrne Middle School at 9:37 p.m. but it would have to wait until morning to determine if any damage had been done.

*An O’Brien mother reported her 14-year-old daughter gone without permission.

Friday, April 28

*Beer and soft drinks valued at $130 were taken from a storage shed behind Nacho Mama’s, it was reported. The complainant noted that the thieves apparently left behind some marijuana.

*An intoxicated man keeps knocking on the window of her business and using profanity, said a woman in Downtown CJ.

*Cited on a charge of second-degree theft for attempting to leave Shop Smart with an unpaid-for cart of groceries, Neila Beth Pierson, 52, also was advised not to trespass at the entire Ray’s Food Place chain.

*At 4:30 p.m. a caller from the 200 block of N. Redwood Hwy. saw a man take a rifle from the trunk of his black, “beater,” Cadillac and drive off at a high rate of speed with the gun between his legs.

*Carl David Bowles, 56, was cited on a charge of fourth-degree assault after a report that someone tried to strangle a 17-year-old boy. Bowles was further cited on charges of driving without an operator’s permit and without insurance.

*Several people fled west on Finch Road after driving a white Dodge pickup truck into a ditch near Joe’s Market in Kerby, damaging a culvert and some fencing.

*A Takilma Road resident reported continuing telephonic harassment, and was sent some information.

Saturday, April 29

*Four tires were taken from a vehicle and her Jerry Drive residence torn apart, a caller reported at 11:46 a.m.

*Lots of “hooting and hollering” accompanied alleged illegal timber harvest in a pole-cutting area off Kerby Mainline Road a caller said. BLM was to follow up on the complaint.

*A Reeves Creek Road resident complained of a threatening phone call.

*The man she believes burgled her residence the night before phoned and threatened her life, a woman reported.

*Said to be “falling down drunk,” a man was getting into people’s cars and “scaring tourists” near Siskiyou Market at 4 p.m. An attempt was going to be made to contact the subject at his favorite Jubilee Park sleeping spot and warn him regarding his behavior.

*Calling for advice about the possibility of placing speed bumps on Forest Creek Road to deter all those drivers who speed down from Terrace Heights, a man was told to contact county public works.

*Four thought-to-be intoxicated juvenile people were headed toward Downtown CJ from Boundry Lane, “causing a ruckus” at 11:41 p.m.

Sunday, April 30

*An SUV set aflame was discovered in the 17000 block of Redwood Hwy.

As the vehicle identification number (VIN) had been destroyed, the matter was referred to OSP, for its “VIN expertise.”

*In the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. a woman reported theft of a child support check from her mailbox.

*Everything was OK following an alarm from the library audio-visual room at Illinois Valley High School just before noon.

*Sometime during the past week a shed on Thompson Creek Road was forcibly entered and a DR trimmer valued at $1,000 taken, the resident said.

*Deputies responded to a call for medical assistance from a man somewhere on Redwood Hwy. in Selma who claimed to have been stabbed in one leg.

The man then variously threatened to steal a car to take himself to a hospital; threatened others with the knife he pulled from his leg; threw stones at people; and at one point was said to be brandishing a loaded gun. Eventually the man agreed to cooperate with deputies, who assisted American Medical Response in taking the man to Three Rivers Community Hospital.

*Following a report of a dog bite on Lone Mountain Road, animal control was notified to deal with dogs running at large.

*On Schumacher Street a man said that someone attempted to steal gasoline from his Chevy pickup truck, and that this has happened repeatedly.

*Vandals who struck a mailbox caused a reported $100 damage on Taurus Lane overnight.

Monday, May 1

*Deputies assisted with traffic control on Redwood Hwy. in Kerby while Illinois Valley firefighters tackled a large house fire reported at 2:18 a.m.

*At a valley mobile home park a man reported two people were removing his items from a residence. It was deemed a civil issue, as the complainant had been evicted, and items were being removed by the park manager.

*Four or five sheets of plywood valued at $35 each were loaded into a Nissan pickup truck and unlawfully removed from the Rough & Ready Creek bridge construction site, and an employee witnessed the theft.

*The emblem from the rear of his vehicle had been stolen, a man reported at the I.V. Substation in Downtown CJ at 1:45 p.m.

*A 22-year-old man was warned about littering in Jubilee Park and about his suspended driving status.

*In the 500 block of Schumacher Street a man said that several persons were camping illegally in the woods near his residence.

*On Upper Deer Creek Road, a woman found a business card with a threatening message on the back. The card was not left by the business person in question, but possibly by someone who found it in a vehicle that had been sold.
