Tales from the Police Blotter

* * *

Thursday, March 30

*Around 6:30 a.m. a new, blue motorcycle was discovered in a field behind Taylor’s Sausage plant on W. Watkins Street. The owner soon came to retrieve it.

*Prescription pain medication was reported taken from a residence in the 22000 block of Redwood Hwy., though there appeared no sign of forced entry.

*Stemming from an argument about money, a woman said that her boyfriend beat her up, ransacked her car and purse, and took her dog and car. Later, he returned them.

*Some guy called “Tattoo Mike” inked her 14-year-old son’s arm at Jubilee Park without her permission, an angry mother reported. She wanted the tattoo artist warned about his actions.

*Approximately 8 miles out Caves Hwy. a “shaggy, brown” horse was out and about on the roadway. The animal was shooed off the road, and because an owner could not be located, it was tied to a milepost sign.

*Kenneth W. Ward, 47, was cited on a charge of defective lighting on Caves Hwy. at Fredrick Court just after 1 p.m.

*Contacted on Eight Dollar Mountain Road, a 46-year-old man was warned about residing on forest service land and failure to register as a sex offender.

*Dennis Alan Knight, 35, was cited on a charge of driving with a suspended license (DWS), and his vehicle was towed from near CJ Select Market at 3 p.m.

*Continuing trouble with a car and a motorcycle racing on Mesa Verde Drive was reported at 3:08 p.m.

*Multiple gunshots reportedly startled horses in the 18000 block of Redwood Hwy. just after 4 p.m.

*Intoxicated, and with a laceration on his hand, a man was said to be bothering customers at Caves Pharmacy.

*Seeing people moving around inside a supposedly vacant house on S. Junction Avenue, a neighbor phoned at 7:48 p.m. Those contacted within the residence were found to be the home owners.

Friday, March 31

*Around 2:30 a.m. a man heard someone pounding on the emergency door on the north side of Shop Smart Food Warehouse. He was told to phone again if they came back or tried to enter the building.

*Responding to a smoke-detection alarm at Evergreen Elementary School at 3:49 a.m., a deputy walked through the entire building, noted an absence of smoke, and left the scene in the hands of fire district personnel.

*Gunshots were heard somewhere in Cave Junction around 3:20 p.m.

*The former tenants of a Deer Creek Road property cut down some 38 trees, resulting in a loss of $7,600, the property owner reported.

*Animal Control was notified of an anonymous complaint about a horse not receiving adequate care at a location near Cave Junction.

*Two persons known for drinking, driving and wrecking were said by an anonymous caller to be leaving an CJ tavern in a white Dodge van at 6 p.m.

*“Highly agitated,” a woman who was part of a “peaceful demonstration” concerning the welfare of a horse was demanding deputy response in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. The caller advised that neighbors were attempting to acquire food for the horse.

Saturday, April 1

*Around 2:30 a.m. a man in a beanie was knocking on guest doors at the Junction Inn, much to the ire of several people who confronted him. The ensuing yelling disturbed one person so much, she phoned the cops.

*No reason could be found for an alarm at CJ Goodwill at 4:50 a.m.

*A black, vinyl purse containing a driver license, Social Security card, and cash was reported lost in Downtown CJ.

*On Holland Loop, a woman located a pistol in a ditch while on a morning walk, and a deputy was requested to retrieve it.

*Although no one was supposed to be there, according to the caller, two men were seen inside a residence on Fir Drive at 10:30 a.m.

*Yelling and talking to himself, an intoxicated man with a bicycle on E. River Street was making his way home, he said when contacted after 11 a.m.

*Some $40 worth of gasoline was reported taken from a U-Haul vehicle at Robbie’s Auto Care Center.

*After watching the occupants of a white two-door vehicle pass a package to some men outside in exchange for money, a caller thought that didn’t look right, and phoned at 5 p.m.

*Three young women were issued written warnings for being in possession of alcohol on Crooks Creek Road at 5:30 p.m.

*Having agreed to allow a buyer to store his things at a Caves Hwy. residence until escrow closes in May, the seller reported finding the buyer and his entire family already moved into the home, and already setting up telephone service.

*Intoxicated, singing and having urinated on himself, a man bought some groceries at CJ Select Market and then passed out in his truck, a store employee reported. Sometime later, having left the vehicle behind, the man was contacted making his way home on foot, attempting to control his large, black dog.

*Stuck in Cave Junction without a friend to phone or a ride back to the Grants Pass motel room where his bipolar medication was, a man phoned just after 8 p.m. from Illinois River “Forks” State Park to freak out a wee bit and get some assistance.

Tuesday, April 4

*Criya Star Moskios, 31, was cited on a charge of violation of the basic rule (VBR: driving too fast for conditions) near mile marker 20 on Redwood Hwy. at 9:17 a.m.

*Levi Delmar Doney, 24, was cited on charges of DWS and driving without insurance on Redwood Hwy. in Kerby at 10 a.m.

*Christopher Jamesray Burns, 28, was cited on a charge of DWS in the 200 block of Redwood Hwy. and his vehicle was towed.

*Eric Lloyd Merideth, 21, was cited on charges of DWS and driving uninsured in Downtown CJ. His vehicle was impounded.

*Barry G. Heizenrader, 47, was cited on charges of driving uninsured and DWS at CJ 76 at 11:01 a.m.

*Bobby Jean Harp, 30, was cited on charges of DWS and failure to carry insurance. He was warned for failure to carry registration and wear a seatbelt.

*In the 17000 block of Redwood Hwy. tires had been slashed on a utility trailer overnight, causing $25 damage.

*Though a woman found roadside on Holland Loop near Takilma Road reported that she had been assaulted and needed deputy assistance, she was determined to be somewhat intoxicated and the assault unfounded. She was given a ride home.

*On N. Junction Avenue, it was reported that a gun in a case had been taken without permission from a couch. Further investigation revealed that the gun case had slipped between couch cushions, of course.

*In the 4000 block of Waldo Road, a man and woman were said to be having a physical altercation, involving screaming, yelling and murderous threats. The two apparently left prior to a deputy’s arrival.

Wednesday, April 5

*A woman on W. Stevenson Street wanted a former tenant arrested for trespassing, but she was instead warned for initiating a false report.

*Heavy traffic on a dead-end of N. Sawyer Avenue and smoke coming from the woods nearby were indicative of a large “hobo camp,” which warranted extra patrol.

*An apparently disgruntled day-park user left a fee envelope filled with a white, powdery substance at Lake Selmac, an employee said.

*Kevin Louis Cleman, 48, was arrested on three warrants charging failure to appear (FTA) on charges of possession of a controlled substance (PCS), menacing, second-degree criminal mischief, contempt of court, unauthorized use of a vehicle (UUV), and another second-degree criminal mischief charge.

*Ray A. Medley, 57, was cited on a charge of DWS near Shop Smart, and his vehicle was towed.

*Near Taylor’s Sausage Country Store, Donna E. Moseley, 41, was cited on a charge of DWS and her vehicle was impounded.

*Students at Lorna Byrne Middle School told a counselor that they heard threats by one student to shoot a pair of others “if they made her mad one more time.”

*An anonymous caller at 3:30 p.m. reported seeing two drug deals go down at Jubilee Park.

*On E. Lister Street a child was reported in a ditch.

*Returning from a lengthy trip, a Lone Mountain Road resident reported finding a 3-inch-round hole in a rear steel door, but it appeared that no entry had been gained.

*At Jubilee Park, a woman with a small dog was said to be urinating in public. While the caller was on the line, the pee-er’s male companion was said to have likewise relieved himself.
