Tales from the Police Blotter

* * *

Tuesday, Feb. 14

*Doors were broken and money taken from a locked cabinet in a Community Bible Church office.

*Someone cut a chain and knocked down a gate in the 18000 block of Redwood Hwy., causing a reported $50 damage.

*A caller from California said that a check, which had been sent to a company in Texas, had been altered in so that the amount was significantly increased, and fraudulently deposited into an account at an Illinois valley bank branch.

*In the 5000 block of Caves Hwy., someone was believed to be living in a yurt on a property posted as a former meth lab, and as such was trespassing.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

*Herman P. Ebarb, 46, Gary M. Jennings, 53, and Rose J. Jennings, 52, each were cited to appear on a charge of trespassing at 1500 Kerby Mainline Road at 9:20 a.m. Another person was warned.

*Employee error was said responsible for an entry alarm at I.V. Senior Center at 9:37 a.m.

*On Pine Cone Drive, fencing and poles had been removed, a caller said, as part of a property-line dispute. As a result, Craig A. Heller, 58, was cited on a charge of second-degree theft.

*Four teen-aged boys said to be firing a rifle into the air in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. They were warned to handle their .BB guns safely.

*The would-be buyer of a property on Waldamar Road reportedly had been cutting and selling trees, clearing the place before he owned it. The complainants were advised of options.

*Jeffrey Pope, 19, was cited on a speeding charge near milepost 34 on Redwood Hwy. around 11 a.m.

*Those involved in a dispute regarding an easement on Crooks Creek Road were advised of their civil options.

*Sometime between 1 and 3:30 p.m. two employees of Sterling Savings Bank in Cave Junction noted that tires had been slashed on their vehicles.

*Paul Wayne Lanfried, 49, was cited on charges of driving with a suspended license (DWS) and for lack of liability insurance in the 7000 block of Takilma Road at 5:11 p.m.

*A caller requested that a deputy contact the parent of two boys on dirt bikes who had been riding erratically on W. River Street.

Thursday, Feb. 16

*A vandal used golf balls to break windows at Dave’s Perfect Pizza and Dr. Housel’s dental office.

*It was believed that former tenants were responsible for a broken down door and a stove left on in a room at Madrone Motel, the landlord advised.

*On Deer Creek Road a woman said that her step-son kicked her office chair while she was sitting in it, aggravating a previous whip-lash injury, and that she didn’t want him to live there any more.

*Out for an amble, five horses were reported by a UPS driver to be walking down Thompson Creek Road toward Lakeshore Drive at 3:42 p.m.

*Following roadside field sobriety tests in the 31000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 7:21 p.m., Paul Daniel Pittman, 38, was cited on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII.) He also was cited to appear under warrants charging failure to appear (FTA) on an original charge of menacing, and contempt of court.

*An argument over when her daughter should check in led to a “mutual shoving-and-pushing” match between the two, and a mother on Lamont Way phoned for assistance at 8:41 p.m.

*A woman in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. was fearfully concerned that an ex-employee’s husband might come make trouble.

Friday, Feb. 17

*Extra patrol was conducted here and there in the wee hours.

*A 67-year-old woman was warned (twice) about misusing her Lifeline button when it was determined, at 3:06 a.m., that she did not, in fact, need assistance in recovering from a fall.

*Approximately 10 gallons of gasoline were taken from an unlocked vehicle on Briar Lane.

*Justin Brian Taylor, 17, was cited on a charge of having obstructed vehicle windows on S. Redwood Hwy. at W. Watkins Street around 11 a.m.

*A student at Illinois Valley High School was found to be in possession of two marijuana buds in a film canister, and he was suspended. A deputy was to contact the school for follow-up.

*On Deer Creek Road a driver was warned for throwing litter out the window of his vehicle.

*Since November,2005, four locks have been cut on gated property on Illinois River Road, and the caller believes someone has been cutting wood there.

*In the 1700 bock of Dick George Road, a woman reported finding a license plate in the front yard by a tree. She thought it may have belonged to someone who’d burgled her residence.

Saturday, Feb. 18

*Smashed overnight, a mailbox in the 8000 block of Deer Creek Road was estimated to cost $100 to replace.

*Someone else on Deer Creek Road said that their mailbox would be replaced for only $50.

*A man who left the scene in a yellow Rabbit was said by a caller to have been sitting on a log in the middle of Sucker Creek, yelling and cursing to himself at 4 p.m.

*Off Draper Valley Road a man said that people in off-road vehicles were trespassing on forest company property.

Sunday, Feb. 19

*Jason Leslie Rauch, 21, was cited on a charge of DUII and his vehicle impounded just after midnight on W. River Street at Kerby Avenue.

*Marshall Brodie Elliott, 20, was cited on a charge of DUII and his vehicle impounded. Elliott had a reported blood-alcohol content (BAC) of 0.18 percent, and was also warned for twice failing to obey a traffic control device, and operating the vehicle without headlights on at 1:47 a.m.

*Charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance (MCS, DCS) -- marijuana, Raymond Lee Johnson, 35, was taken into custody sometime after 3 a.m. and lodged in Josephine County Jail.

*In the 5000 block of Takilma Road, a man said that some items had been taken from the motor home he’d been living in.

*Nicolas Bobo, 14, was cited on a charge of being beyond parental control, and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center in Grants Pass.
