Tales from the Police Blotter

Wednesday, Nov. 30

*Inclement weather seemed to be the likely cause of an alarm that sounded at Evergreen Savings Bank at 9 p.m. All was found secure

*An elderly motorist, who had encountered vehicle trouble and was given a ride to Oregon Caves Chevron, said that she wanted to speak with the FBI, and furthermore she “was tired of people trying to mess with her car.” She then walked away, and couldn’t be found.

*Awaiting her boyfriend, who was en route from California via Happy Camp Road due to the closure of Siskiyou summit, a young woman was at Dairy Queen in Cave Junction at 10 p.m., and an employee was concerned. The sheriff’s office ascertained that the boyfriend was on his way, but could not locate the woman to inform her.

Thursday, Dec. 1

*Two weeks of harassing phoning calls from a collection agency had a rural Cave Junction woman upset enough to phone at 2 p.m. She was advised of her options, and the agency was told to discontinue the phone calls and take up the matter in court.

*Two men reportedly involved in a motor vehicle accident on Reeves Creek Road at 3:30 p.m. were said to be tossing a case of beer into the bushes. They (the men, the accident, the beer) could not be located, however.

*A Lorna Byrne Middle School student was warned about threatening phone calls and notes she was accused of sending another student.

*The mother of a young woman who’d been waiting in Cave Junction for a to Yreka reported that the woman was nowhere to be found. Later she was discovered at a big store in Grants Pass.

*Christopher L. Box, 22, was cited on a charge of failure to carry insurance during a 6 p.m. traffic stop on Redwood Hwy. at River Street.

*“Moving, but unable to get up,” an intoxicated man with a head laceration was said to be lying in the alley near Evergreen Savings Bank. Contacted was Russell R. Brummett, 34, who was cited on a charge of failure to appear (FTA) on an original charge of third-degree theft.

*Stating that “something had been clipped into his head and that he was the next serial killer,” James R. Bellah, 28, was taken into custody on a peace officer’s mental hold after he was found walking down the middle of Redwood Hwy. in Downtown CJ, “waiting for a semi to come by and hit him.” He was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.

*After an alcohol-fueled argument between father and son on White Oak Drive, Dana G. Taylor, 48, was cited to appear on a charge of FTA on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

*Although a neighbor on Schumacher Street reported what sounded like a disturbance in the residence next door, the tenants were warned regarding the county noise ordinance at 8:30 p.m.

*On White Oak Drive, a man said that two intoxicated men were threatening him and using profanities because he would not get them some more alcohol.

*Near milepost 22 of Redwood Hwy., a driver was warned for a defective headlight and two broken tail lights at 9:30 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 2

*In the 1000 block of Deer Creek Road, a cab driver was stiffed a $67 fare when the person she dropped off ran into some bushes.

*DVD players, two MP3 players and a television were reported stolen overnight from a locked vehicle on S. Kerby Avenue.

*A Cave Junction father said that his 15-year-old daughter kicked a 4-year-old child across the room, causing the girl to hit the wall. The teenager also was accused of hitting her younger brother.

*On Crooks Creek Road a resident said that a man who had arrived in the neighborhood by taxi cab had been there all day, in spite of having been told to leave.

*After appearing in a Crooks Creek Road residence, asking for food and claiming that his wife had died a violent death, a man, who stated that he was god, was detained, warned about trespassing at two Crooks Creek Road addresses and transported to Cave Junction.

*In the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy., the driver of an older pickup truck was “doing donuts” and honking a horn on the parking lot of a CJ business at 10:45 p.m.

*Transported to town earlier, a man was panhandling customers and harassing employees at the CJ 76 gas station, asking for store credit on Jesus Christ’s account.

Saturday, Dec. 3

*A man claiming to be “the Holy Spirit” phoned from the Junction Inn at 2:18 a.m. to say that two men had threatened to kill him

*Wearing a plaid jacket and blue jeans, a man who appeared to be intoxicated was said to be wandering on the middle of the roadway on Caves Avenue at Lister Street at 9:30 a.m.

*Two men on Happy Camp Road were warned for failure to validate their firewood permits.

*On Hummingbird Road a go-cart was discovered in bushes at the end of a cul-de-sac. The owner was located and retrieved it.

*A 6-foot-tall, lighted spiral Christmas tree valued at $22 was reported stolen from in front of a residence on S. Junction Avenue.

*Jon Charles Jacobsen, 45, was cited on Briggs Valley Road for failure to tag a Christmas tree.

*Detained at Speedy Mart, by the mother of the boy whose bicycle was stolen, a 15-year-old said he would give it back, because he didn’t want any more trouble.

*Her intoxicated husband was yelling at her and the children, said a woman on Caves Hwy., and she was afraid he was going to become violent. She left for the evening.

*After she received a phone call from “an Arabian,” a woman on S. Old Stage Avenue demanded that the 911 call taker write down the phone number right away. Advised that this was not an emergency, the woman became uncooperative and hung up. It was determined that the offending phone call was a telemarketer from India.

*At quarter to 9 p.m. a big, brown horse was said to be walking down the middle of the road near Four Corners in Takilma.

*A patron at a CJ bar said at 10:45 p.m. that a blond woman hit her in the face on the dance floor.

Sunday, Dec. 4

*At 2 a.m. a deputy stopped to assist a motorist changing a tire in Downtown Cave Junction.

*The owner of a dog that was run over in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy., and the driver who did the running over, were working out the details of the animal’s medical care when deputy assistance was rendered at 10:30 a.m.

*Valued at $1,000, a gate for a property on French Peak Road appeared to have been rammed by a vehicle, a caller stated. Pieces of head and marker lights had fallen from the offending vehicle.

*David Earl Wilson, 63, and Richard Lee Robinson, 60, each were cited on charges of shooting a firearm across a roadway in an unsafe manner in the 4000 block of Happy Camp Road at noon.

*Following a chase on Happy Camp Road, Robert Allen White Jr., 24; Jakob Virgil White, 17; and Richard Mark Webb, 23, each were cited on charges of removing timber without a permit (for unpermitted Christmas trees). Furthermore, White Jr. was cited for careless driving.

*Barry Galen Heizenrader, 47, was cited on charges of driving with a suspended license (DWS) and driving while uninsured on Happy Camp Road at 1:15 p.m.

*Bryan James French, 28, was cited on charges of DWS and improper license plate display on Deer Creek Road at 1:30 p.m.

*Three people were warned for not having
Sno-Park permits on Page Mountain.

*Possibly due to the power being out, an alarm sounded at Lorna Byrne Middle School at 3:16 p.m.

*Idiot vandals released some half-million gallons of treated waste-water into Illinois River from the Cave Junction sewage treatment facility, it was reported at 1:38 p.m.

*A 250-gallon fire engine was reported stolen from the Oregon Dept. of Forestry guard station in Cave Junction.

*Though a business owner was concerned that a white van parked nearby might belong to someone looking to rob someplace while the power was out, it turned out to belong to the business next door.

*Someone attempted to break into a vehicle on Kerby Street, setting off an alarm, a woman said at quarter to 7 p.m.

*Neighbors on Pine Tree Way were arguing over easement rights-of-way and aggressive dogs.

*Many intrusion alarms in Cave Junction activated accidentally due to a power outage.

Monday, Dec. 5

*At 1:30 a.m., a woman reported that someone had stolen a vehicle from Jerry’s Towing impound lot by driving it through the fence. An initial investigation did not note any missing vehicles or fence damage, but the caller remained insistent, and when the deputy returned she showed him what had happened and where.

*A Russian-made Makarov pistol valued at $500 was reported stolen from a residence on Walters Drive.

*Distraught and seeking treatment for her slit wrists, a 20-year-old woman was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital on a voluntary mental hold.
