Tales from the Police Blotter

* * *

Tuesday, Nov. 22

*Food items were taken from the Cave Junction Head Start kitchen by thieves who entered through a rock-smashed window, an employee said at 6:30 p.m.

*On Hogue Drive a man was extremely angry about the way school officials were handling a situation which had caused “war in his household.”

*A caller from Selma was concerned that a woman may once again be involved in an abusive relationship or at least have her Social Security check stolen, but she was fine when a deputy checked.

*On Redwood Hwy. at Hogue Drive just after 9 a.m. a driver was warned for unlawfully stopping on the roadway.

*It was reported that a woman, “suffering from dementia,” was yelling from the middle of Ollis Road, and that she had left on all the burners in her residence. A deputy determined that the woman wasn’t a danger to herself or others.

*Workers apparently triggered an alarm at Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church on S. Junction Avenue around 1 p.m.

*Both parties were counseled to stay away from each other after a deputy responded to a report from Happy Camp Road of telephonic harassment.

*At 5:15 p.m., a man in the 38000 block of Redwood Hwy. phoned to say, “Emergency! Emergency! George Bush just called and said he needed Adolf Hitler to
---- him in the ---.” The man was contacted and warned about misuse of 911.

*A houseguest inadvertently set off alarms at a residence on Idlewild Drive.

*Asked by Del Norte County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Dept. to attempt to locate a stolen vehicle, a deputy responded to an address on Westside Road, but found nothing, at least nothing in the way of a stolen vehicle.

*In the 200 block of N. Redwood Hwy., it was reported that a female passenger of a gray, two-door vehicle parked at a Cave Junction business, would run down the street, possibly to a suspected drug house, and return. This was said to have been a nightly routine for several weeks.

Wednesday, Nov. 23

Friday, Nov. 25

*In the 400 block of W. River Street, a Jeep Wrangler was reported stolen, and the thieves also attempted to remove a stereo from another vehicle.

*Second-degree burglary and theft in the first degree were investigated at Giant Burger, where thieves cut locks and cleaned out the entire food inventory, including frozen food.

*On Caves Avenue, a 14-year-old boy was said to be beyond parental control.

*A resident on Fir Drive said that he woke to a noise, saw lights flashing, and discovered that his front door had been pried open and the main electrical circuit turned off. His landlord’s adjacent residence also was open. He believes that he may have startled some burglars.

*Somewhere near the 39000 block of Redwood Hwy., a man said that his father had gone missing while looking for a Christmas tree. After more than 90 minutes, he turned up OK.

*A man on Ollis Road believed that he had scared off possible thieves riding motorcycles or mopeds, who had been lurking nearby at 9 p.m.

*Two callers from Pinecone Drive thought they heard gunshots, or possibly fireworks, being discharged around 9 p.m.

*Said to be under the influence of vodka, and punching walls, breaking things and being “out of control,” Cody Lee Parsons, 15, was arrested on a charge of being beyond parental control and taken to Josephine County Juvenile Justice Center in Grants Pass.

Saturday, Nov. 26

*In the 500 block of Schumacher Street at 3 a.m., a woman phoned 911 to complain about some noisy people across the street, but she could not describe any suspicious activity or state a qualified emergency.

*Traveling through from California, an overnight guest in Cave Junction reported that his cell phone, flashlight, and Home Depot credit card were stolen from his vehicle.

*A stolen vehicle, from which the driver walked away up Lone Mountain Road, was recovered at O’Brien Country Store, where the suspect had stopped for fuel.

*Numerous four-wheel-drive vehicles were said to be tearing around on BLM land in the vicinity of Rockydale and Waldo roads.

*Laura M. Provancha, 30, was cited on a charge of violating the basic rule (VBR)/driving too fast for conditions, and driving 45 in a 30 mph zone.

*Someone kicked open a studio door at A Creative Space in Downtown CJ.

*At the request of an employee, a number of transients were warned for trespassing after they had been drinking on-premises at CJ Select Market and refusing to leave.

*More alcohol-swilling trespassers were warned about being at CJ Select at 1:43 p.m. Another man, already in custody in Josephine County Jail, was informed that he was no longer welcome there, either.

*Youngsters playing on the roof of Lorna Byrne Middle School were causing trouble at 3 p.m., but they eluded capture. I.V. Fire District responded to help with ladders.

*On Eight Dollar Mountain Road a man was warned for failure to validate his Christmas tree tag.

*After allegedly ingesting an entire bottle of lithium, an O’Brien Road man was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital on a peace officer’s mental hold for evaluation.

*On Pinewood Way a woman complained that her neighbors were “being obnoxious,” spinning their tires and shining a spotlight at her.

*Three youngsters, one holding a flaming stick and another with a fuel can, were walking in the vicinity of Ken Rose Lane, dropping the torch here and there, alarming the 7 p.m. caller.

*Unknown persons entered a residence on White Oak Drive via the back door just after 7 p.m., but discovering that the resident was home, cut the power to the house at the breaker box, and slithered away.

*A large, low-hanging branch appeared as though it might soon become a traffic hazard on Happy Camp Road. A county public works crew was to be notified.

*Angelo Coronado II, 42, was cited on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.14, and warned for failure to use a turn signal in the 5000 block of Holland Loop at 9:50 p.m.

Sunday Nov. 27

*Fingerprints, but no damage, was discovered at Goodwill Industries in Downtown Cave Junction after a glass-breakage detector signaled at midnight.

*An ex-husband and wife were having difficulty exchanging the children on Idlewild Drive at 6 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 28

*Perry C. Beaulieu, 47, was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree domestic assault and lodged in Josephine County Jail.

*On Takilma Road a 9:30 a.m. motor vehicle accident resulted in minor property damage.

*An Evergreen Federal Bank an employee said that a man was refusing to get out of a car that a woman was trying to get into. The man was also said to be carrying a gun, and when he finally did get out, he left southbound on Redwood Hwy. The woman soon left in the car, saying that she had appointments.

*Several minor traffic accidents due to snow were reported today.

*On Rockydale Road a home owner discovered thather telephone was off the hook, the back door was open and her home had been burgled. Many items were gathered as though the thieves intended to return.

*A mother on W. River Street said that her son was there causing trouble.

*Joseph J. Zurek, 45, was cited on a charge of illegally parking on the roadway on S. Hussy Avenue at W. Lister Street at 12:25 p.m.

*On Crest Drive a father reported a physical and verbal disturbance between himself and his adult son. For his part, the son said his dad tried to run over him, hit him with a vehicle, and threw him in a ditch. No weapons were involved, and no crime ascertained, but a deputy cited Robert Wendover, 28, on a charge of failure to appear (FTA) on a charge of second-degree criminal mischief.

*Though he claimed to have been assaulted by his girlfriend and his car keys and cell phone taken from him, a man not pursue charges against his assailant, but did want
deputy contact.

Tuesday, Nov. 29

*Two people admitted to having “crashed for the night” in a house on W. River Street, which was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke at 9:15 a.m. But they confessed to having no idea how the fire might have started.

*While on scene at the aforementioned structure fire, a deputy arrested Rodney Blake Sanders, 40, on a charge of violation of a restraining order. He was lodged in county jail.

*A 66-year-old man was told to pack up and move his squatter camp from behind St. Mathias Episcopal Church sometime around noon.

*On W. River Street, a driver fled, allegedly yelling, “You can keep the keys,” as he ran after disregarding a “Stop” sign and striking another vehicle, a witness said.

*Told yesterday to break camp and move on, a man still entrenched behind St. Matthias was escorted with his belongings from the premises.

*William David Daily, 55, was cited by U.S. Forest Service law enforcement on charges of driving with a revoked license, no insurance, switched tags, and cutting minor forest product when stopped on Briggs Valley Road at 1:30 p.m.

*After news of an alarm at Illinois Valley Visitor Center, a deputy arrested Jesse Thomas Hopwood Camp, 22, on a Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety warrant charging FTA on a charge of possession of a controlled substance (PCS). He was also charged with failure to leave name at the scene of an accident (FLNSA) in connection with the previous day’s hit-and-run on W. River Street.

*Her daughter took two checks without permission and cashed them at businesses in Cave Junction, a woman said.

*On June Drive an allegedly intoxicated man was pounding on a door and trying to get in, in violation of a restraining order. When told the police were being called, he ran away. A deputy was unable to locate him.

*Phoning from a neighbor’s house on S. Kerby Avenue, a woman said that her husband, whom she is leaving, broke out all the windows of their trailer and car, and was trying to take their son and her wallet and wouldn’t leave her alone. She was advised of her options after the man left.

*Someone in a light-colored vehicle was driving in continuous circles through Pineridge Trailer Park, and slamming on the brakes.

Wednesday, Nov. 30

*In the 31000 block of Redwood Hwy., a possibly intoxicated driver in a small red pickup truck was said to be “all over the road,” at quarter past midnight.

*In the 500 block of Lone Mountain Road at 12:30 a.m. a man noted a pickup truck in his neighbor’s driveway, running and with its parking lights on.

*Responding to the scene on Lone Mountain Road at 12:48 a.m., a deputy discovered that the “parked” pickup truck had in fact been crashed there, and that the driver was asleep on the front seat. When conscious, Justin Tyme Stafford, 26, was cited on charges of DUII (BAC: 0.18), and DWS. He was released to a friend, and his vehicle towed.

*Some $70 worth of gasoline was taken from a pair of U-Haul trucks at Robbie’s Auto Care Center.

*At 6:45 p.m. a school bus driver said that someone on Lone Mountain Road shined a very bright light at him as he drove by with a busload of children. He was concerned that it might cause an accident.

*When advised that he would have to start paying rent for a room in which he’d been staying for almost one year, a man on Caves Hwy. began to threaten the complainant, and kicked her dog. She was advised of landlord/tenant laws.

*After hearing gunshots yesterday, a man said that he found blood on his porch this morning. A sample was obtained.

*In the 25000 block of Redwood Hwy. a squatter was advised to pack up and leave within 24 hours.

*Nothing appeared to be out of place or missing even though the back door of a residence on White Oak Drive was found ajar.
