Monday, Nov. 7
*All was OK at a Takilma Road residence despite a 4 a.m. 911 call in which only static could be heard.
*As a result of a verbal dispute the night before, a woman on W. Lister Street phoned at 6:17 a.m. to say that her aunt had set fire to her father’s clothing behind the home and left on foot wearing a beanie and carrying a blanket and a toolbox.
*Although she contended that she was nearly strangled by her brother and had to spend the night in the trash bin behind a church, the likelihood that a 53-year-old woman had something to do with an earlier report of arson was investigated.
*Convinced that he had seen a body in the woods, a young student was taken by school bus to the vicinity of Redwood Hwy. and Laurel Road where it was ascertained by a deputy that what he saw was a black backpack.
*Coming in through aback door and stripping a pillowcase from the bed, a thief made off with a .38-caliber Bersa semi-automatic handgun valued at $300, and a box of ammunition, from a residence on N. Old Stage Road. The home owner was to provide a list of additional items taken.
*A deputy and a mortician investigated the death of a 54-year-old man on E. River Street around 3:30 p.m.
*Second-degree criminal mischief was investigated after yo-yos in a blue vehicle broke through a gate and trespassed on Reeves Creek Road.
*Josephine Interagency Narcotics Team was to be notified that some people were again apparently living in a trailer on a Prottsman Way property, as reported by a neighbor.
*County public works was notified of a 20-foot-long tree across Happy Camp Road in the 4000 block at 4 p.m.
*A man on Gold Canyon Road was advised of his options and told to contact Florida law enforcement after learning that someone there had been using his Social Security number.
*Though it was reported that a vehicle was in a ditch at Caves Hwy. and Holland Loop at 6:17 p.m., no crash or signs of a crash were located at either possible intersection when a deputy checked.
Tuesday, Nov. 8
*One mile up Eight Dollar Mt. Road at 3 a.m., Larry Lisle Hickerson, 40, was cited on a charge of having no valid operator’s permit, and warned for failure to maintain a lane and lack of insurance.
*For no known reason, a fire alarm bell repeatedly sounded this morning at Illinois Valley Senior Center.
*A business owner on S. Redwood Hwy. believes that an associate used a key to enter her business, smash a jewelry case and take items, she reported just after 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 9
*A caller expressed concern for a “beefy”-looking man in a white sweater who had been hanging around on the roadway in the 200 block of W. Watkins Street, moving slowly and appearing “handicapped” or “disabled.” However, a deputy was unable to locate the person.
*The neighbor with whom she shares a well had threatened her somehow, and placed a lock on the pump house, complained a woman in the 17000 block of Redwood Hwy. The neighbor was quoted as saying that he would be happy to give her a key.
*Intoxicated, sitting in the rain in the 300 block of S. Redwood Hwy. for the past three days, and generally raising a great deal of concern, “Chaz” Albert Lindsey, 21, was charged with violation of parole and lodged in Josephine County Jail.
*A silver-colored Cadillac reported stolen from an address on Waldo Road was soon located being fueled at Oregon Caves Chevron. The man with the car provided documentation to prove he was repossessing the vehicle, not stealing it.
Thursday, Nov. 10
*Several drivers in the O’Brien area were warned for infractions such as failure to use a turn signal or obey a “Stop” sign around 2 a.m.
*Damage estimated at $250 was caused when someone pulled the lock from Onion Mountain Lookout using a chain. No suspect information was available.
*Employee error was to blame for an alarm at Kar Kare at 7:36 a.m.
*Some time around 8 a.m. in the 2000 block of Holland Loop, a blue four-wheel-drive vehicle rolled off the road. A witness stated that young kids and alcohol might have been involved, but no one was around the vehicle.
*In the 6000 block of Lakeshore Drive, a man was advised to seek assistance from an attorney regarding a neighbor who keeps padlocking a gated easement.
*On Deer Creek Road, a woman who believed he owed her money for yard work and such was there harassing him, a man reported.
*A passerby reported a large fist fight behind a Cave Junction bar at 3 p.m., but an employee stated that there was no problem when she looked.
*Drunk, “like always,” and causing problems, an unwelcome man was again on June Drive, said a woman, who had herself been drinking. When a deputy responded, the man was passed out and not causing a problem.
*On Laurel Road a man reported theft of two fuel cans and a Mantis tiller.
*After driving and rolling his truck twice though a white vinyl fence in the 3000 block of Holland Loop -- demolishing a gate and loosing a horse and donkey onto the roadway
-- an “uncooperative” Steven Maltby, 43, was charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant, reckless driving, and second-degree criminal mischief. Although Malby refused a blood/alcohol test, his “blood was seized for other crimes.” A dog was found to have been in the vehicle; it was left with a responsible party.
*A father was advised of his options involving his 14-year-old daughter, who is supposed to be living with him, but is instead with her 18-year-old boyfriend in a trailer on the same property. The father was afraid that the other four men who live on the property might beat him if he tries to get her.
Friday, Nov. 11
*On Fernwood Drive, a red Peugeot was said to be blocking the roadway, but it was gone when a deputy responded.
*Plastic jugs with orange residue and plastic gloves had been dumped in a rubbish bin at Selma Select Market, and a caller wanted to know if it was hazardous material.
*Some undescribed damage was reported to Brown Barn Launderette, as three to four men were fighting, according to a caller.
*Two teen-agers at the bottle return at CJ Select Market were shot by unknown assailants with pellet guns, a caller said at 4 p.m.
*Three young men were said to be fighting on the roadway and on the side of it in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 7:30 p.m. A deputy was unable to locate them.
*On Caves Ave., a father reported his 14-year-old daughter as having run away.
*Two girls phoned his daughter to tell her that “she would be dead in a week,” a girl’s father said, noting that they’re having issues at school.
